The purpose of Westbridge Residential School is to provide a safe and secure environment for students who are in Years 3-8 of schooling.

Westbridge operates three types of programmes; Seven day residential, Five day residential and Centre for Extra Support day students.  There are 3 cottages on site, Te Puna O Te Aroha, Pohutukawa and Puawai each accommodating eight children.  One cottage specifically caters for seven day children who live outside the Auckland metropolitan area; the other two cottages accommodate five day children who live within the Auckland metropolitan area.

Each room is alarmed and has a solid wall divider which enables two children to have a space each

The residential programme is structured, planned and supervised by the residential team of each cottage and within a larger team when the afternoon programme is in place.  During the daily afternoon programme your child has the opportunity to practise small peer group skills such as negotiation and sharing.  Your child attends a social skills programme twice daily within their own cottage.

Children and their families are assisted to:

- Follow through with day-to-day routines and chores

- Practise target behaviours in small groups and individually

- Succeed working side by side with their peers

- Spend one-on-one time with their PKW (Primary Key Worker)

- Practise new skills learnt in the programme with experienced staff

- Provide firm boundaries

- Learn within a safe, structured environment

- Gain confidence

- Attend appropriate community based programmes
